Student Housing Massy [FR]

The new development ZAC Ampère finds itself in the heart of the city Massy and is located within the neighbourhood Atlantis. The 100 ha urban plan for the neighbourhood Atlantis prescribes the renewal of this former monofunctional business park into a dynamic and lively mixed urban area. The development includes housing ensembles, student housing and offices.

The new student housing complex contains 255 housing units with common social areas and sport facilities on the ground floor. The building is designed as a unique, solid mass out of white concrete, situated in alignment with the main streets. The windows are randomly situated across the facade, creating a playful configuration and an irregular relief in the facade. The perception of the irregular relief is reinforced by the design of those metal frames sticking out the volume. The facade is interrupted by three breaches with orange coloured opaque mineral that relates to the natural process of corrosion. This intervention allows for hallways to benefit from natural daylight.

The ‘Residence Etudiante’ is accessible by a large entrance hall. The common area continues throughout the building by a generous circulation area overlooking the courtyard in the centre of the U-shaped building. The central courtyard is an intimate, open place for social interaction and acts as an extension of the common areas.
