Shishimskaya Gorka Ekaterinburg [RU]

Uktus area, the place where the city of Ekaterinburg was born, is gradually up to renewal. In the near future, the Uktus area will be densified intensively. Its strategic location between the inner-city and the recreational areas of Ekaterinburg, it is providing opportunities for improving the connection of the city center with the surroundings like the Uktus Mountains.

To create a quality environment, the plan needs clear character areas and in particular a heart. The center of the area is a hill where the rest of the city is visible. Here the crown of the area will be built with high accents.

It will be a visible development that helps both - to position the project in Ekaterinburg skyline and to function as an orientation point towards the green landscapes around the city as well as the airport in south.

Two other character areas are placed at the hillsides: a valley with meandering open spaces towards the new metro station and another area called village with a pedestrian heart.

Locally, the masterplan celebrates green links with facilities and the partly rediscovered waterfronts. New identifiable places are created as part of the public space network, binding the various new and old areas together. For example the original location of Ekaterinburg is made visible again, the history can be seen repeating itself.

The masterplan also provides an impulse for further renewal. For example the industrial areas to the west provide opportunities for transformation as the city expands and needs more quality living environments.
