Team led by KCAP for the new district Köln-Kreuzfeld

A multidisciplinary team led by KCAP is one of the six competitors in the Competitive Dialogue “Land Stadt +feld”, to design the new district "Köln-Kreuzfeld" in the borough of Chorweiler in Cologne, Germany. It has approximately 80 hectares where, following the plans of the City of Cologne, at least 3,000 residential units and new jobs shall be realised. The aim is to develop multi-use open spaces, social, cultural, and educational facilities while accommodating different ways of working. The design concepts have to consider infrastructure and climate protection with the additional challenge of social integration. Broad public participation accompanies the development of the new district, such as the public kick-off event held on June 7th, 2021, with the six participating teams during the live broadcast.

The team led by KCAP as urban designer comprises the place-making experts REALACE - FÜR GUTE ORTE, the landscape architects Ramboll Studio Dreiseitl and FUGMANN JANOTTA und Partner, the engineers Buro Happold for mobility, ecology, climate change, and energy. The multidisciplinary team is looking forward to creating a sustainable urban and productive quarter based on the principles of existing characteristics combined with density and innovative programs to limit the impact on the greenfield the new district will replace.

In the next public participation forum on August 21st, 2021, the six urban concepts developed after the first phase of the competitive dialogue will be presented in a local marketplace. The Urban planning office of Cologne manages the process in cooperation with the offices for process support and moderation Urban Catalyst + neubig hubacher.
