Fan-shaped Cruquius
18 July 2019
Underground parking spaces for 190 vehicles and a fan-shaped layout become visible at the Cruquius-wharf building site. KCAP has drawn up the urban development plan for this former industrial erea in order to create a lively living and working area. The fan-shaped layout opens up the building structures towards the water and greenlands. It also gives room to high quality gardens in between the structures. Special thanks to crane operator Geurt van Boekel (BAM) who takes pictures from high up almost every day.

Start construction Cruquiuswerf Amsterdam
12-04-2019
Construction of Cruquiuswerf Amsterdam has started and was officially celebrated on Friday, April 12th. The former industrial area of Cruquiuswerf is being transformed into a vivid neighborhood voor living and working based on an urban plan by KCAP. The urban concept is set up with a fan-shaped layout with the linear building structures opening towards the quay along the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal. This provides for stunning views towards the water and letting a maximum of sun enter the spaces between the volumes. Next to the urban plan, KCAP is also responsible for the architecture of the buildings and the design of the public spaces. Those are structured as a spatial framework with two large collective gardens with each a sunny neighborhood square and a continous quay along the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal. Cruquiuswerf comprises of 290 apartments, 5 townhouses, an underground parking garage and a building with commercial functions, developed by AM and constructed by BAM Wonen. On the adjacent Berkhout area another 120 apartments designed by KCAP will follow, a development of Amvest.
KCAP's Cruquiuseiland model is part of the exhibition 'Close to Reality' in Amsterdam.
