Green light for start construction of The Student Hotel in Nieuw Delft

On Thursday, October 18th 2018, The Student Hotel signed a purchase and realisation agreement with the Nieuw Delft project organisation. The Student Hotel also signed agreements with BAM and Bectro and got the green light to start building the eighth location of this unique concept in the Netherlands.

The Student Hotel in Delft is known for its distinctive design. It will contain 350 rooms and combine high-grade hotel facilities with high-quality short- and long-stay facilities. The hotel with its approximately 13.500 m² of size reveals a striking open front with views towards the station and the future Van Leeuwenhoekpark. The hotel accommodates various shared areas (approximately 1.600 m²), including a reception space with 'lounge and game area', a bar-restaurant (The Commons), co-working areas (TSH Collab), teaching and study areas (TSH Classrooms) and spaces for fitness and laundry. An indoor bicycle shed for The Student Hotel’s 'bike-sharing concept' completes the hotel.

Wish to settle in Delft
Charlie MacGregor, founder of The Student Hotel, says the following about the choice for Delft: "Since I settled in the Netherlands, it has been my wish to open a student hotel in Delft. Delft is one of the most valued international university towns in the Netherlands. With our European network and Complete Connected Community concept we connect students, researchers and entrepreneurs from Delft with other tech & design cities like Eindhoven, Toulouse, Berlin and Barcelona.”

Welcome addition
Martina Huijsmans, alderman of the municipality of Delft: "Our city attracts talent from all over the world. The Student Hotel responds to this and offers accommodation to (foreign) students in a hotel environment. With all the facilities that go with it. For Delft, The Student Hotel is an exceptionally valuable and welcome addition to the existing range of student accommodation. The hybrid hotel concept offers many public functions which are ideal for anyone who wants to stay, study, dine, have a cup of coffee or visit a nice lecture in the heart of the station area.”

Gijs Leffers, project manager at BAM Bouw en Techniek - Projecten: "For BAM, The Student Hotel - Delft is the fourth project, after Amsterdam, Eindhoven and Maastricht, for the TSH. It is unique to be able to realise this hotel together with TSH in Delft, my old student town. Enthusiastically, we contribute to the construction of TSH and, together with our partners, realise a valuable addition to Nieuw Delft.”

Jeep Heida (project leader) at Bectro said: "Delft is the eighth The Student Hotel building in the Netherlands where Bectro Installatietechniek is working on. We design and realise all electrical and mechanical installations for this building and also design and build the 350 prefabricated bathrooms. The Student Hotel Delft will be equipped with a CHP installation and solar panels as part of the group's sustainability policy.”

The Student Hotel in Delft is designed by KCAP Architects&Planners. Construction is scheduled to start at the end of 2018. The complex will be completed in the summer of 2020.
