Envision Seoul Underground

Kees Christiaanse’s vision on Seoul underground space is exhibited under the title of "Jongro Connector" at the ‘Envision Seoul Underground’ exhibition in in Seoul, Korea.

The City of Seoul showcases the exhibition ‘Envision Seoul Underground’ in Seoul Center for Architecture & Urbanism up from May 15th 2018. A selection of nine architects from Korea and abroad who are renown for the most recent influential contributions to urban design and architecture in Seoul, are presenting their vision on the future of underground spaces in order to revive underused urban space in the city center of Seoul. The City of Seoul plans to apply their visions to the governmental urban space improvement policies in the future. 

Kees Christiaanse has been invited to reveal the potential of the underground space of Jongro 4-ga area, a crossway adjacent to Sewoon 4th district, which is currently being developed by KCAP Architects&Planners. Kees Christiaanse’s proposal, entitled ‘Jongro Connector’, connects the Jongro MRT station, the Cheonggye river and the basements of the adjacent building blocks with each other through one comprehensive gesture, forming an attractively curved circuit including a square with public space and art objects.
