KCAP in cooperation with international team commissioned for masterplan Olympic City Hamburg

The Ministry of Urban Development and Environment Hamburg (Behörde für Stadtentwicklung und Umwelt) in cooperation with HafenCity Hamburg has commissioned the preparation of a masterplan for the new city district ‘Olympic City’ and the planning of major sports venues Olympic Stadium, Olympic Swimming Pool, Olympic Hall and the Olympic Village on the Kleiner Grasbrook area.

The contract has been awarded to a total of 8 offices and includes not only the urban and open space masterplan, but as well a cost analysis for the period of the Olympic Games in 2024 and for the new city district Olympic City, which will be realised after the Olympic Games on the 'Kleiner Grasbrook' area.

The offices started working in the end of April. Meanwhile, they have developed planning alternatives for the site and building development of Kleiner Grasbrook area. On June 2nd, the developed variants for Olympic City will be  presented and discussed by Kees Christiaanse and Nikolaus Goetze (gmp Architekten).

The commissioned offices have been selected on the basis of an EU-wide tender procedure. Together, they have an extraordinary reputation and a broad international experience in the field of planning city districts as well as in the design of sports facilities including Olympic venues.
