Redevelopment Noordelijk Havenhoofd Scheveningen presented

Today, the plans for the redevelopment of the Noordelijk Havenhoofd in Scheveningen are presented by VolkerWessels Vastgoed and entrepreneurs united in Scheveningen Viscluster. The urban vision by KCAP Architects&Planners and the business plan for area form part of the plans. The 8,8 ha area in the south of Scheveningen will be developed with a mixed program of recreation in combination with the original fishing industry into an area with a special character.

The area consists of two parts: the fishery with fish processing companies at the fish harbour and the seaside boulevard with a recreational tourism program. In the urban vision, the fishing industry will be concentrated and extended around the first harbour.

‘This creates more space to unload catches and to organize efficient and sustainable logistic processes. It will strengthen the competitiveness of Scheveningen as a fish harbour,‘ says Hans Borsje, regional manager of developer VolkerWessels Vastgoed.

‘The improvement of the spatial structure and its composition also directly contribute to the attractiveness of Scheveningen as a seaside resort,’ says Irma van Oort, partner of KCAP.

Adjacent to the boulevard designed by Spanish architect De Solà-Morales, a new dune will be constructed as well as a new promenade on top of a parking garage, overlooking the beach and the sea. At the tip of the promenade a 3-star hotel, a hotel-apartment complex with pavilions and terraces and in the future an indoor sport cluster are planned, also the educational center 'FISH' to experience all about fish and the Northern Sea.

The urban vision and business plan form the basis for the zoning plan. For the architectural elaboration various architects will be responsible, including KCAP for the hotel and the renovation and expansion of the monumental United Fish Auctions (UFA) buildings.
