Villas Deventer [NL]

The urban expansion area Graveland is located at the far east side of Deventer and borders the De Bannink rural estate and the Gooiermars nature reserve. It offers relatively large plots of land for the higher segment of the private housing market. The location of the 4 villas is adjacent to a park with views to the nature site. From the park the villas present themselves as a coherent unity through materialization and a basic shape. As individual buildings they differentiate themselves from each other through slight variations in their building mass, façade composition and interior organisation.

The villas consist of two floors and an indoor garage. The different rooms of all four villas are clearly readable from the outside in the differentiation in the building mass: the entrance with the garage next to it and the bed- and bathrooms on top of it, followed by a smaller and slightly higher volume with downstairs a kitchen, a patio, a wide corridor and a bedroom upstairs with wide wooden lamella windows. Last follows downstairs the living room with a large void and a double high glass front in which an indoor and outdoor fireplace is integrated. On top of that there are more bedrooms along a wide corridor which can be used as well as a play- or workstation. The façade is made of ClickBrick system.

The absence of horizontal joints and only minor vertical joints create a robust and solid appearance of the facade. The subtle rust-colored brick create a nice warm feeling. The striking element in the façade are the long horizontal windows of sometimes 9 meters of length. The facades of the patio and the bedroom in the middle of the villas consist of horizontal western red cedar parts with olympic stain. Also the doors of the garage and the entrance canopy are clad with these materials. The choice of color for the materials was chosen by the residents.
