Garage building 'P+R De Uithof' is part of the masterplan of OMA for Utrecht’s university campus De Uithof. It is located at the exit of highway A28. The 10 storey building offers 2.000 parking spots for the hospital staff, the university, the Hogeschool and for public use. It contains a bikeshelter and serves as a transfer to the fast public transport connection to the city centre.
The design consists of sloped floors which offer a great visual spectrum of the space and allow for good orientation. In the heart of the building a large atrium allows for natural daylight and ventilation to enter deep into the building. The atrium also contains lifts and staircases. On the ground floor, they have a central location as concerns the public transport facilities. In terms of material and detail the building has a functional expression predominantly defined by its construction.
Utrecht has currently four P+R locations at the border of the city. Some of them are of temporary use. With its 2.000 parking spaces P&R De Uithof will be the largest parking garage of Utrecht. Along the South-West side of the city the municipality develops the P&R Hooggelegen which is as well a design by KCAP in cooperation with JHK Architecten.
