Request for more compact cities

Experts at the Immobilien Forum West yesterday in Innsbruck, Austria, demand more compact cities.

The 'future of the inner cities' was the focus of the 5th Real Estate Forum West in Innsbruck. 'The city of tomorrow needs to be compact and have a high quality public transport system,' said keynote speaker Kees Christiaanse. 'Monofunctional neighborhoods are to be avoided.'

In Europe, a trend is to be seen in which a city guiding culture replaces rigid building codes. 'Cities do not release fixed, legislative building and zoning regulations anymore in which everything will be determined and prescribed. Instead, all relies on more global structural visions which are based on political consensus."
